MARGARET IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Club singles champion and club director Margaret King was inducted as 2022-23 ladies president at Saturday’s Stamford Indoor Bowls presentation night.

She succeeds Shirley Suffling and will be joined by Ian Hall, who was elected to continue as men’s President.

Mrs King said that she was looking forward to the challenge and would continue to promote the club as an inclusive community. She would encourage and engage with members, especially newcomers, to become involved and hopefully more competitive, by entering teams in the domestic leagues, which needed support.

They were succeeded respectively by Ian Hall (who will also serve another term as president) and Dave Pawson. Director Margaret King was elected lady president.

SENIORS SETBACK

Stamford Over 60s completed their season with a 69-75 defeat at Sleaford, winning on two rinks to claim four points which kept them in second place, 20 points behind Lincs seniors league (South) winners Boston A (121).

A’ TEAM HOPES DASHED

A slim chance that Stamford men’s ‘A’ team might hang on to their slender lead at the top of the Lincs League (South) were dashed on their own carpet, when their ‘B’ team failed to halt their nearest challengers Boston ‘A’.

With a game in hand, Boston were level on points with Stamford A, and only behind on shots difference so one point against Stamford B would be enough to win the league.

And they did it in style with a 90-65 victory securing 12 of the 14 points on offer.

The only winning Stamford rink was Henry Gordon, Sam Downs, Mick Owens and Ally McNaughton who claimed 10 shots in the last seven ends against Adrian Field’s quartet.

Result Lincs Men’s League (South): Stamford B 65 (2pts) Boston A 90 (12).
Stamford names only: K Rawlins, K White, R Blake M Dye lost 15-22;T Barwell, Mick Smith, D Henshaw, D Heffernan lost 17-22; P Linnell, M Wallace, D King, D Middleton lost 12-36; H Gordon, S Downs, M Owens, A McNaughton won 21-11.
