STAMFORD indoor bowls club stages its annual Under 18 junior tournament on Sunday, March 26 when youngsters will be travelling from as far afield as Surrey, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Derbyshire to take part.

Sponsored by local bowls retailers D & M Sports (who will have their mobile bowls shop at the club during Saturday and Sunday), the event also includes a handful of Stamford IBC members playing to a round-robin, eight ends format with each group winner and runner-up taking part in semi-finals and a final with £150 in prizemoney at stake.

Representing Stamford are James Hebden, Noah Tarabad, Owen Aspinall, Gemma Graham, Ben Dawson and Charlie Priestley.

Matches start at 10 am with the final around 6pm. Volunteer markers would be greatly appreciated.

Skegness has never proved a happy hunting ground for Stamford's women bowlers - and this week was no exception. Just when they needed vital points, the Seasiders turned their season on its head.

However, the four points they did claim from a possible 16 in a 10-shot defeat, still gives the Stamford ladies a chance to claim their first ever win in the county (Trudy Bates) A League.

D-Day will be March 30 when Stamford travel to Spalding needing a win in their last match to make the league secure with the chance to win the overall title with a match against the northern B league winners at Grantham in April.

Stamford currently has 74 points - eight clear of Boston who also must visit Spalding (52).

While June Brennan, Elizabeth Wallace, Shirley Suffling and Christine Ford took the rink honours comfortably, credit must also go to Moira Dolby, Pat Jones, Stella Henshaw and Flick Rogers who snaffled five shots in the last two ends to win 17-16.

Those two points could yet be vital to the campaign.
