A PLACE in the last 32 of the National Over 60 double rink, together with local bragging rights, was at stake when two all-Stamford rinks clashed on Monday morning.

And after 21 highly competitive, banter-filled ends it was Stamford A, last year's last-16 losers to the eventually winners from Nottingham, took the honours with a 38-19 aggregate.

Only two shots separated the sides after five ends but a six on the next end by Roger Martin's quartet saw them surge into an 11-3 lead against Cliff Watson that they never relinquished.

On the adjoining rink, Martyn Dolby's four were steadily building an advantage against John Little and 12 shots in nine ends eventually put the overall result beyond doubt.

Stamford A will play North Cave in the next round (33-32 winners over 2014 champions Boston) at Lincoln as a neutral venue as the two clubs are more than 100 miles apart.

It will be played at 10.30am on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
