The Stamford Indoor Bowls Club quartet who lost in the national final of the 2013 English Over 60s Fours at Melton in March have again made it to the Area final stage and now face a tough draw at Lincoln.

Mike Ramsden, Bob Warters, Peter Edwards and Martin Dolby - having beaten Derek King's Stamford rink last month - took on Barry Wilson, Ron Flowers, Paul Flatters and Les Feary from Boston on Wednesday, who had early beaten a rink skipped by Keith Rippin at Stamford.

A four on the first end gave Stamford early heart but they immediately gave it back on the next and the match continued in ding-dong fashion and was nicely poised at nine-apiece after nine ends.

After 17 ends Stamford led 17-15 then successive two and four counts put them eight in front until Feary finally conceded on the 20th end at 15-24 to set up a clash with Scotsman Mike Smith's Lincoln block in the Area Six final.

Paul Bailey and his 15-year-old daughter Katie competed in the newly introduced English Generation (Family) Pairs this week but came up against tough first round opponents in Martin Tomlin (Boston) and daughter Chelsea (Spalding), a member of the quartet that won the English Women's Indoor Fours earlier this year and recently selected for the England Women's Under 25 team for the Home Internationals.

The Stamford duo held their own in the earlier stages but finally went out 24-13.
