Club catering opens for snacks and meals

One of the main advantages we have missed during our return to bowls under Covid-19 restrictions is the chance to sit down with our bowling friends for a hot drink, a chat or a lunchtime meal.

The club has now put that right by engaging the Happy Bowl Catering Company who will operate a table service, thereby complying with government and our bowls' governing body rules, from 9 am to 4pm on weekdays (9 to 1pm on Tuesdays) depending on demand.

Initially, Emma Gunnill (Pictured above) will be serving teas and coffees and hot snacks ( including bacon and sausage sandwiches, baked potatoes and toast) but as demand increases lunches will be available between morning and afternoon sessions with a varied menu.

Says the company's John Phoenix, who has a similar franchise at Spalding IBC: "We are looking forward to opening the cafe area on a daily basis with immediate effect for Stamford club members and plan to offer a full breakfast and lunch service.

"Much will depend on customer demand and we will build on our menu as we get to know members' preferences."

He says the cafe can provide a full English breakfast from £4.95 (eggs, sausage, tomato, bacon, fried bread etc.) or simply eggs or beans on toast or sausage or bacon sandwiches or rolls (from £3).

Lunch menu includes jacket potato with various fillings (£5), omelette (cheese, bacon, ham, with chips or salad (£6.25), beef burger with chips or salad (from £5.95).

Fish & chips on Fridays (£7.50), a daily roast ( from £7.50) plus home made desserts and cakes will also be available as members' taste dictate.

Sunday lunches are being served from this week (October 18) and can be booked either direct (07762360170) or via the club during normal sessions.

It is vital that members and guests make full use of this opportunity to provide on-site catering so we can judge its success and invest in its long term future.

BAR NOTE: With restrictions in place and volunteers at a premium, the club does not currently have plans for the bar to open but hopefully as protocols are relaxed this will be considered, subject to demand.
