Stamford teenager Stephen Harris was a member of the Lincolnshire county indoor Liberty Trophy team which reached the quarter finals of the inter-county event at the weekend with a four shot defeat of Nottinghamshire at Boston.
Playing on a rink skipped by county captain Danny Brown, the 18-year-old lost on his rink by 13 shots but played a 'steady game' according to Brown and thankfully their performance did not effect the overall 114-110 result.
Lincs, last year's runners-up, lost a 20-shot overall lead at one stage to trail after 17 ends but managed to turn it round in the closing ends to earn a place in the last eight against Durham, to be played at a neutral green in York next month.
Having reached the area semi-final of the national fours, the Stamford rink of Malcolm Cullingworth, Bob Warters, Tony Scarr and Roger Martin face an uphill task on Tuesday (6.30pm) at home to a Grantham quartet skipped by Mathew Orrey, whom this week reached the quarter-finals of the world indoor singles and is due to play former champion David Gourlay.
In second round match, another nail-biter against the injured Simon Skelton, who had to be transported up and down the rink in a wheelchair because of a broken metatarsal in his foot, Mathew won on a measure in the tie-break 7-10, 7-6, 2-1.
Stamford Men's B team entertain Long Sutton A on Saturday, with a revised start time of 1pm.
