Kevin and Lyn Tuck and Bob and Joy Scholes, joined forces in the four-player rinks event - one of 13 teams from the Stamford club against teams from around the country - and after emerging unbeaten in the ‘round-robin section, won twice more in the knock-out stage.
They eventually lost to a quartet from Oldbury, West Midlands on the last end of the semi-final. With the game delicately poised at 5-5 and Stamford holding two shots, the Langley skip trailed the jack for victory. Langley beat Colchester in the final.
Two other Stamford teams reach the knockout stages - Shirley & John Suffling with Margaret & Derek King and Tony & Judy Barwell with Chris Ballard & Keith Rippin.
Simultaneously, Stamford B visit Sleaford, after outgunning defending champions Boston A in their opener.
Stamford’s women are due to open their league account at Spalding next Thursday (10 am).
They lost the match 82-71 - after a wretched start - but shared the rinks points with two wins.
Inspired by the accurate leading of Tony Barwell, Dennis Henshaw, Mick Owen and skip Maurice Dye took the rink prize with a 21-15 triumph over Tony Stanley.
Mick & Peter Smith and Bob Warters had to play a man short due to last minute withdrawals but emerged 18-16 winners against Chris Bradley’s quartet.
The team’s next game is at Boston on October 27.
