At long last Stamford's Over 60s team competing in the Lincolnshire Seniors Division Two have won promotion to the top tier, writes Bob Warters.
Despite many attempts to get out of the league they have fallen at the final hurdle, indeed last year when they looked set to go up a cancelled game against Long Sutton cost them vital points.
However, today came the news that Sleaford, their rivals for promotion with Skegness A, failed to achieve the 16 points they needed at bottom of the table Dunholme to make it to Division One.
Next season Stamford will find much tougher opposition and apart from Skegness, must travel to Lincoln twice (to play their A and B teams), Boston, Spalding and Scunthorpe.
However, it is a great achievement to get promotion and adds to Stamford's weekend B side's Third Division Title in the County Men's League.
