Bowlers Requested to Wear Face Coverings Again

Bowlers are being encouraged to voluntarily wear face coverings again to attend Stamford Indoor Bowls Club in Exeter Gardens, following recommendations from the game's governing body. They can, however, remove them for play on the green or when seated in the dining area.

Following a meeting of the club directors on Tuesday, the club announced that the English Indoor Bowling Association has produced guidelines that recommend its affiliated clubs ask their members and visitors to voluntarily wear a face covering when they enter and move around the venue - even though government guidelines do not apply to indoor sport and leisure venues.

The EIBA adds:"The face covering can be removed when members and visitors are on the green playing and when having a drink and or meal.

"In addition if any of your members or staff live with or have been in contact with someone who has been identified as a suspected or confirmed case of the Omicron variant they must self isolate for 10 days, even if they have been double or triple vaccinated."

Says Stamford IBC chairman Keith Rippin : "In view of these recommendations I believe we should adopt this policy forthwith and additionally all volunteers at reception should also resume wearing face coverings unless exempt."

MORE PLAYERS PLEASE!

League secretary John Holroyd is appealing for more teams to join the Stamford IBC Thursday afternoon men's triples league (2.10 pm) from January.

The league has been surviving on a repetitive programme featuring just five teams since September but needs more teams to commit to make it more competitive and enjoyable.

Stamford Seniors Top the Table

By securing a maximum 14 points at home to Spalding, Stamford top the Lincs Over 60s League (South) with 55 points - 13 clear of Boston A who have two games in hand.

The overall result was never in doubt as Stamford raced into a 34-shot lead after ten ends. The visitors rallied briefly but late scoring eventually put the result beyond doubt. A home fixture against fellow title-chasers Boston A on January 5 should be compelling.

Results: Lincs Over 60s League (South) Stamford 111 (14 pts) Spalding 49 (0). Stamford names only: T Barwell, D Bruce, K Rippin, R Martin won 36-11; P Burt, D Henshaw, D Miller, T Christie won 29-6; H Gordon, J Bourne, K Gentry, B Warters won 25-15; D Heffernan, C Jones, Mal Smith, K Vinter won 21-17.
