Superb wins for Stamford's young women

Two outstanding victories have taken Helen Holroyd, Louise Harris and Katie Bailey into the semi-finals of the Lincs WIBA triples to be played at Sleaford on March 23.

Competing on the slick Lincoln surface, they outgunned clubmates Jan Want, Denise Mackie and Glenys Edwards 24-11 then saw off the challenge of competition favourites from Spalding - Danielle Wild, Gloria Haney and Chelsea Tomlin.

The young trio picked up a five count to lead 11-6 but were pegged back to 10-14 before claiming a key shot on the last end after Harris trailed the jack out of sight of Tomlin's attacking bowls.

In the men's Lincs IBA pairs Mick Humphreys reached the next round with a 16-11 defeat of clubmates Alan Romaine and Tony Barwell after the team's were tied at 15 ends.

FEDERATION LATEST

Stephen Harris, Cliff Watson and Peter Edwards are through to the semi-finals of the Northants Federation two bowl triples, beating Jeff Clipston, Mick Greaves and Brian Basson, capitalising on an early 13-1 lead to win 23-8.

James Harford survived a series of accurate firing bowls from Dick Noble to reach the next round of the Federation singles, eventually winning 21-3. Tony Brwell beat Joe Martin 21-7.

In the women's pairs Elizabeth Wallace and Carol Warters conceded late shots to lose 14-21 against Marlene Osbourne and Hazel Bass at Whittlesey IBC.
