Stamford Under 18 Open a great success

Adam Fuller, 17-year-old Nottingham Academy student from the South Forest indoor club won the D & M Sports-sponsored Under 18 Open at Stamford on Sunday, beating Melton's Paul Warrington (16) in the eight-end final 8-3, writes press officer Bob Warters
More than 30 players took part in the event from as far afield as Surrey, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Derbyshire, with Stamford supplying a handful of candidates for the future.
They included James Hebden, who missed a qualifying place in the semi-finals when he lost on the last end of his fourth match, while Owen Aspinall won two and drew one. Also taking part were Charlie Priestley (2 wins), Gemma Graham and Noah Tarabad.
But it was the visitors who took the honours with 15-year-old from Corby,Emma Muir, narrowly losing her semi-final to the eventual winner and Josh McCarthy (14) travelling over 100 miles from Egham and unbeaten until he came up against Warrington and lost 12-4.

Stamford's Junior team (18 & under) made a solid start to their defence of the Lincs Co-op League with a 21-16 win at Sutton St James, eventually overcoming the slower surface. The team was Kalum Orme, Owen Aspinall, James Hebden and Jay Travis-Jenner.
