A Team Crumble to McVittie & Co.

Against neighbours Spalding, Stamford Men's A team put up a highly creditable display in the Lincs Men's League (South) but eventually were undone by a home rink which included one of its former members Brian Martin and outstanding England skip Dominic McVittie, recently recruited from the Blackpool club, a primary school teacher, who taught them a few lessons in precision bowling.

Supported by Mick Doulton and Paul Turner, the two were a potent combination producing bowls of the highest quality in a 26-10 defeat of Bob Warters' rink which proved crucial to Spalding's overall 82-66 victory, in which they secured 10 of the 14 points at stake.

Stamford had a chance to win on the three remaining rinks, thanks to narrow victories by Roger Martin and Adam Warrington but Alan Barnes' quartet which included Bernie Crouch making his debut, couldn't quite hold on to an early 8-2 advantage.

Scores: Lincs Men's League (South): Spalding 82 (10 pts) Stamford A 66 (4). Stamford names only: R Allam, D Ford, M Linnell, R Martin won 21-19; Mal Smith, J Travis- Jenner, N Wright, A Warrington won 19-18; M Ramsden, B Crouch, D Miller, A Barnes lost 16-19; J Suffling, D Bruce, C Ballard, B Warters lost 10-26.

Harris on Trial

Stephen Harris, the Stamford IBC bowler, who won the national pairs with Graham Smith in October, when representing Spalding, has been selected for his first England senior trial at Northampton on December 4.

He will play lead in the prestigious rink of Martin Puckett, current world singles champion and Spalding team-mate Mark Dawes and Greg Harlow from the Potters resort, another player with world championship pedigree.

Stephen (24) has also been retained for the England Under 26 trials for which he made his England debut in 2019.

The Senior international series is due to take place in Belfast from March 17-19, 2022, the Under 26 internationals in conjunction with the British Isles series from February 19-20 at Frith IBC, Prestatyn, Wales.

Club Member's Owen Aspinall (aged 13) & Ollie Jeapes (aged 12) represented their county, Lincolnshire, in the National Under 30's team competition last Saturday, which Lincolnshire worn by 43 shots to 29.

Aspinall played No.2 in club mate Stephen Harris's rink which won 16-15, while Jeapes led for Jordan Philpott in a 33-10 win

Following some rough tactics with the jack on the previous end, Ollie had the undoubted distinction of breaking the jack which he now has as a trophy.

Lincolnshire now face Yorkshire in the next round on 19 December.
