Friendly Captain, Denis Stapleton reports:

Our Weekend Friendly team have retained the Welland Salver by beating local rivals Spalding in this year's two legged fight out. We took a 30 shot lead to Spalding and after being still 26 in front at the halfway stage we thought we were very nearly home and dry. But home captain Geoff Craft and his team weren't ready to give in on their own patch and fought back to being all square with one end to play. We had hung in due mainly to the rinks skipped by Dennis Henshaw and Bill Orme, who had at lead Barbara Norman who stepped in as a replacement at the last minute, and thanks to her and the rest of Bill's rink they scored a vital two shots as did Maurice Dye's rink to see us scrape home by just one shot - Well done everyone.

Result Stamford 99 Spalding 128: Peter Almond, Judy Barwell, Richard Horne, Nick Carr lost 11-34; Rosemary Roberts, Maggie Holden, Denis Stapleton, Dennis Henshaw won 23-9; Melvin De Camps, Janet Moore, Doug Ellis, Mark Hebden lost 14-24; Janet Dye, Joy Winfield, Betty Sims, Maurice Dye lost 10-32; Janette Bourne, Stella Henshaw, James Hebden, Trevor Christie drew 18-18; Barbara Norman, Serena Brunning, Tim Stokes, Bill Orme won 23-11.
