Stamford bowlers were dumped out of the Area semi-finals of the English Over 60s Double Rinks by Scunthorpe B - the north Lincolnshire outfit winning comprehensively at home and away to win overall by 22 shots.

Stamford's home rink of Dave Hudson, Derek King, Bob Warters and Martyn Dolby were expected keep the tie delicately balanced by taking advantage of the familiar conditions but skipped by Scotsman Jim Davidson with excellent support from his team-mates, the visitors settled quicker to the carpet speed.

Turning point came after eight ends when Scunthorpe snatched a six count to lead 10-6 and never again relinquished their advantage, running out winners 19-13.

Away from home, Stamford's quartet of Alan Romaine, Mike Ramsden, Keith Rippin and Peter Edwards, held their opponents in check until the halfway stage when Scunthorpe extended their lead from 12-9 to add 14 shots without reply by 15 ends and went on to win 30-14.

Scunthorpe eventually won 49-27 to set up a clash with the defending champions from Lincoln, who beat Sleaford 51-26.
