Friendly Team Stump Boston

Post date: Nov 21, 2018 3:53:17 PM

It’s three on the trot, for our rampaging Saturday Friendly team. The latest a resounding win against their old rivals the Boston Stumpers. Is there no one who can beat them. With their ruthless captain Maggie going AWOL (absent without leave), the stand-in Dennis (the menace) Henshaw stood no nonsense. There’s going to be no ‘while the cat’s away the mice will play’ under my watch, said he, whipping his straining at the leash team, into a frenzy.

The starting bell rang and off they went. After four ends one or two heads had started to drop not only on the rinks but on some of our now battle hardened stalwarts shoulders as well. We were 23-18 down, but with a ‘we shall not be beaten example’ being set by the stand in captain leading 6-2, and regular best rink winning skip, Ron Blake, by 6-1; who romped ahead to 20-7 after nine ends. On the other rinks ‘the menace’ led 11-5, Colin Burgess down 4-8, Nigel Trigg down 9-11, Jill Goode up 12-3, and Stella (the knee) Henshaw down 5-14.

Overall at the halfway stage we are leading 61-38. Keep the crowds back please. The Stumpers demand a recount, no way says the menace whose rink went on to win 30-8. Ron Blake’s got a six on the eleventh and carried on to 39-15 to claim the best rink prize yet again. His woods have been sent back the manufacturers to check that they are legal. Jill Goode’s rink got back to winning ways with a 22-14 victory. Bad luck to the other three rinks, but their scores all contributed to a very pleasing result 129-98 in our favour.

Rink scores: Sue Gentry, Alison Lea, Dennis Henshaw won 30-8; Howard Neath, Cherry Burgess, Colin Burgess lost 13-20; Ken Rawlins, Margaret Grainger, Nigel Trigg lost 16-20; Reg Goode, Serena Brunning, Jill Goode won 22-14; Rosemary Roberts, Val White, Ron Blake won 39-15; Keith Dowson, Ann Preston Bambridge, Stella Henshaw lost 9-21.

Will still require players for the match on December 9 at home to Sleaford. See notice board opposite the bar.
