STAMFORD Men's B have proved invincible in the third division of the Lincs League and have already clinched promotion back to Division Two with a game to spare.

With 78 points they cannot be caught for the title, thanks to 16 points from the 111-81 home defeat of Long Sutton B in which skip Trevor Christie, his son-in-law Mark Hebden and grandson James, joined Mal Smith to take the rink honours 27-11.

Stamford bowlers face a local derby against Peterborough to reach the area finals of the Over 50 Triples after beating a strong Spalding trio on their own surface.

Dave Hudson, Mick Humphreys and John Holroyd held a slender lead going into the last three ends against John Hainey, John Needham and Graham Wright but with six shots, including a three count on the final end, ran out 17-10 winners and now face Terry Corney, Nick Wilkie and Jeff Pitt at Stamford.

By picking up 32 points from a maximum 36 from their last two Lincs Over 60s matches against Skegness B and Lincoln C, Stamford have moved into a promotion place in the second division, just seven points behind leaders Dunholme, whom they play in the last match of the season.

The latest 113-85 victory at Lincoln was particularly impressive, recording only one rink defeat and claiming 16 points.

Rink honours went to Tony Barwell, Gerry Corby, Trevor Christie and Mick Owens who adapted well to the slick conditions, claiming successive five counts to run out winners by 11 shots.

Roger Graham, Arthur Lonslow, Peter Banks and the evergreen Albert Horton also claimed 10 shots in the last five ends to win 23-13.
