The teams shared the singles points. After Martyn Dolby beat Stephen Harris 21-16 after Spalding’s Chelsea Spencer - whom we look forward to watch competing at the televised world indoor singles at Potters in January - put on a dominating performance against Stamford’s Yvonne Monaghan, conceding only seven shots.

In the fours, the home quartet looked overwhelmed at 4-14 after 13 ends but a late flourish of shots - 13 without reply in the last five ends - took Elizabeth Wallace, Chris Ford, Mike Anderson and Neil Wright to a shock 17-14 victory against their illustrious rivals.
So the match overall - with Stamford leading 6-2 on points and a further eight at stake - hinged on the outcome of the pairs and triples. Game on!
Both games were close in the early stages but a six-count by England internationals Analese Dunham and Dominic McVittie to level their pairs match against Michelle Smith and Tom Newman-Borret proved a turning point. And Spalding ensured their place in the next round by taking the triples, too for an overall 10-6 points win.

After a shaky start, Stamford seniors have hit the road to recovery with two successive wins - the latest of which was at Grantham by 44 shots on Tuesday.
The rinks skipped by Roger Martin and team captain Kevin Vinter shot out of the blocks, leading 23-1 and 18-5 respectively by halfway and never relented in keeping the overall score points under control.
Martin’s quartet, completed by Jeff Bourne, Ian Smith and Mick Linnell, eventually allowed Grantham only three scoring ends in a 37-5 win. John Holroyd, Graham Patrickson and Martin Hewitt helped their skip to three counts of four and a six in a 31-14 win.
