R.I.P. Arthur Chapman (96)

Post date: Nov 15, 2018 9:18:25 PM

Thomas Arthur Chapman, Stamford IBC's oldest member, has died, aged 96.

The former paratrooper, who lived in Cottesmore Road, Stamford, was an enthusiastic bowler, since he discovered the sport less than a decade ago.

In later years, travelling to the club daily on his rain-protected mobility scooter, he played for the club's Over 60s and friendly teams and was always determined to improve, despite having to take to a frame and then a wheelchair on to the green in pursuit of excellence.

One of his highlights was to be re-united with two of his bowling heroes, former world champions Nick Brett and Greg Harlow (pictured above) at September's Open Singles.

Arthur, who had been confined to bed in recent weeks, will be sorely missed, especially by his lunchtime friends at Mel Weston's club restaurant.

The funeral service will be held at Stamford Cemetery chapel at 11pm on Friday, November 30 followed by interment at Ketton Green Cemetery at noon. Bowlers are invited to Stamford IBC afterwards.
