By the narrowest of margins Peterborough Indoor Bowls Club quartet Mick Fuller, Mick Linnell, Joe
Martin and Dick Noble carried off the annual Mick Owens Christmas Tournament trophy at
Stamford IBC at the weekend, sponsored by Molson Coors.
But it all went down to the last bowl of their final 8-end match before they could claim the £80 first
prize with an overall 22-shot margin compared to the 20-shot difference of 14-year-old James
Travis-Jenner's rink of Dave Hudson, John Holroyd and Ross Travis-Jenner who finished on
identical points.
Almost 100 bowlers took part ranging in ability from Denny and Yetton Trophy players to raw
beginners but all agreed it was a great way for everyone to gain valuable experience of competition
play.
Third place went to Richard Martin's rink which included English Indoor Bowls Association competitions director Geoff Day from
City of Ely IBC.
Said Noble who was celebrating his 66th birthday: "It was a great day, well organised and very
competitive. Hopefully we'll get the chance to defend the trophy next year."
The event was organised by club secretary Carol Warters and administrated on the day by Peter Edwards and Nina Rawlins, with catering provided by Andy Peaple. Thanks also to bar steward Tracey Harris and helpers.
