Mixed team close in on leaders with Skegness demolition

With a maximum haul of 18 points against Skegness, Stamford cruised into second place in the Lincs County Mixed League First Division - just 14 behind leaders Spalding with a game in hand.

The league leaders recently picked up only two points from a visit to Louth A so Stamford needed a good return from their latest home match against Skegness to keep up the pressure on a first mixed league title for the club. And they achieved it with a comprehensive win by 126-67.

Forced into last minute replacements captain Margaret Bloxham drafted in Peter Linnell and Mal Smith and both acquitted themselves well in respective wins.

Linnell admitted to nerves in his mixed debut at skip but played his part in a 30-14 scoreline while Smith played No.3 to Cliff Watson and shared in the spoils of top winning rink alongside Bloxham and Joan Robinson.

Stamford entertain Spalding on February 11, followed by two key games at Skegness ( March 12) and Lincoln ( March 25)
