Stamford A start their Div One campaign in style

Stamford Men's A team made a promising start to their Lincs Division One campaign with a comprehensive 105-94 defeat of champions Boston away from home, claiming 14 of the 18 points up for grabs.
Victory was even sweeter because it was Boston who pipped Stamford for the 2015-16 title by just one point, robbing them of glory for the first time in their history.
At the mid point in the 21-end encounter over five rinks, there was little to choose between the sides but as Stamford got to grips with the pace of the surface, they were able to build a fluctuating cushion of points.
In the end it was the rinks skipped by Martyn Dolby, Paul Bailey and Roger Martin who made the difference, while Peter Edwards' quartet were unlucky to lose by just two.
Stamford have a chance to build an early lead at the top of the table with their next visit to newly promoted Sleaford on October 23, the day after they play Boston again, this time in the inter-club Denny Cup.
Result (Stamford names only):
Lincs First Division: Boston A 94 (4pts) Stamford A 105 (14). D Hudson, S Travis, DWant P Edwards lost 21-23; S Harris, D Miller, J Earl, M Dolby won 18-16; J Holroyd, K Rippin, A Barnes, Roger Martin won 24-17; R Allam, D King, A Warrington, P Bailey won 23-14; M Cullingworth, C Watson, J Travis-Jenner, B Warters lost 19-24.
