'A' Team Win County Men's League (South)

Stamford 'A' Overcome Final Hurdle to Win the Lincolnshire Men's County League (South).

Winning at home on Sunday against Spalding by 83 shots to 57 was enough to secure top place in the league leapfrogging neighbours Grantham who having beaten Sleaford away the previous day had set Stamford the target of winning in their final game and getting at least 8 points. This was achieved by 83 shots to 57 victory having won on three of the four rinks to secure 12 points and win the southern section of the league.

Back row (L-R): Jeff Pitt,  Roger Martin, Owen Aspinall, Mike Ramsden, Keith Rippin, Neil Wright, Wayne Aspinall, Richard Allam, Tony Barwell, Marty Dolby; Front Row: Trevor Collins, Dusty Miller, Mike Humphreys, Adam Warrington, Wayne Morris, Mick Linnell.

Spalding started strongly taking the initiative across the rinks over the first four ends. However, Stamford rallied and went in front from the fifth end with Adam Warrington's rink being 7-2 up and Roger Martin's rink being 9-3 up at this stage. Warrington's rink continued to pile on the pressure scoring heavily throughout whilst Trevor Collin's rink found it hard going up against a talented young side but rallied to stem the torrent of shots being scored against them in the latter stages picking a consolatory 5 shots on the last two ends.

Elsewhere Martyn Dolby's rink scored steadily to edge in front of their opponents from around the half way stage they then retained the upper hand and finishing strongly over the last three ends.  Warrington's rink which included Mike Humphreys, Wayne Morris and Neil Wright always had the upper hand against their opponents and provided the required buffer against any slip ups elsewhere. They finished as the best winning rink with a score of 32-8 which ensured the game was never in doubt.

The result enable Stamford to play in a play off game between the north and south sections of the league and they will now play Lincoln to decide the overall winner of the league. This match is due to be played at Louth on Saturday 15th April which is also scheduled to be the club's final day so a compromise of some sort is being considered.

Lincs Men’s League (South): Stamford ‘A 83 (12), Spalding 57 (2).
Stamford names only: M Humphreys, W Morris, N Wright, A Warrington won 32-8; W Aspinall, D Miller, O Aspinall, M Dolby won 19-10; J Pitt, T Barwell, K Rippin, T Collins lost 9-24; R Allam, M Ramsden, M Linnell, R Martin won 23-15.

'B' Team Suffer Agonising Defeat Away at Boston

Hoping to finishing the season with a win Stamford Men's County 'B' team visited Boston to play their 'A' team whom they had beaten at home at the beginning of the season.

Sadly it was not to be as Boston were intent on seeking revenge and they delivered this with a stunning performance winning handsomely with double figure wins on all four rinks which enabled them to stay one place above Stamford who finished at the bottom of the table.

Stamford's 'B' team will no doubt regroup and consider their options for better results next season.
