Deciding Week of Games for the Mens County League

LINCOLNSHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE RESULTS

Stamford IBC’s men’s ‘B’ team suffered a setback to their hopes of climbing up the Lincs League (South) table when they failed to grab any of the 14 points available points at Sleaford in 67-92 defeat over four rinks. However they could still influence the league and do their 'A' Team colleagues a favour!

Result Lincs Men’s League (South): Sleaford 92 (14 pts) Stamford ‘B’ 67 (0).
Stamford names only: H Gordon, K White, M Owens, A McNaughton lost15-26; Mick Smith, K Rawlins, C Jones, M Dye lost 15-24; P Linnell, M Wallace, S Downs, D Middleton lost 17-21; T Barwell, R Graham, D Henshaw, D Heffernan lost 20-21.

They now have a chance to decide who wins the league title when they entertain championship pretenders Boston ‘A’ on Saturday and can help their own Stamford ‘A’ team snatch glory.

Boston ‘A’ played Spalding on Wednesday night and were hoping to claim the three points they needed to overtake their Stamford ‘A’ rivals and take on North Division winners Lincoln ‘A’ in a play-off. But they were beaten 85-70 and grabbed only two points which still puts them behind Stamford ‘A’ on shots difference (122-215). So If Stamford ‘B’ can claim all the points in the final match, they will have the chance to take on Lincoln 'A''!

In the same league, Stamford ‘B’ fought bravely at Sleaford with Dave Heffernan’s rink just failing by one shot against Tony Stanley and Darren Middleton losing out by four.

The Stamford B team to host Boston A on Saturday is: P Linnell (captain) M Wallace, D King, D Middleton; H Gordon, S Downs, M Owens, A McNaughton; T Barwell, Mick Smith, D Henshaw, D Heffernan; K Rawlins, K White, R Blake, M Dye.

The match, which starts earlier than usual at 12.30 pm will be followed at 7 pm by the Stamford IBC presentation evening when trophies will be presented to club finals winners and runners-up and vouchers to teams who have won or finished in the top two places in domestic leagues. It will also feature a chance to welcome the new club presidents who were due to be elected at Wednesday’s annual meeting.

FOOTNOTE: Christine Ford’s Stamford mixed team were unable to dent Spalding’s Lincs Mixed League(South) title aspirations when they were beaten 58-99 at home, winning just two of the 14 points at stake.

Martyn Dolby (right) beat Stephen Harris 21-10 in their delayed Stamford men’s singles on Tuesday.
