In the Area 5 final they were soundly beaten by Leicester IBC's Roger Cooper and Dave Wilson, conceding after 16 ends when 12 shots adrift. Even the distraction of Leicester City playing Seville simultaneously in the European Champions Cup couldn't distract the two Foxes fans and they eventually ran out 19-7 winners

The Stamford pair were still in touch at 5-8 after 10 ends and 7-11 (13) with Warters keeping heads tight at lead but when standards dipped, Martin was unable to get the pair out of trouble with heavy bowls and a four and three count in successive ends brought their campaign to an abrupt halt.

Mal Smith (substituting for Dave Hudson), John Holroyd and Mick Humphreys also had a chance to get Stamford into the final stages on Wednesday when they took on Mark O'Connell's Church Gresley rink at Melton in the Area 5 final of the Over 50 triples.

However, despite having counts against him on a number of occasions the Derbyshire skip played weighted shots with his Henselite Dreamline bowls to great effect helping his trio to a 16-6 victory.
