WITH A 52-shot defeat of Scunthorpe, Stamford knocked their opponents off second place in the Lincolnshire over 60s League Division One.

But with 62 points from five matches, they are still 44 points behind runaway leaders Lincoln A who have already amassed 106 from seven fixtures and are heading towards their 23rd successive title.

Stamford play Lincoln at home on February 7 hoping to take a little shine off their title aspirations.

Against Scunthorpe the overall result was never in doubt thanks to the rink of Dave Hudson, Charlie Jones, Peter Burt and Cliff Watson who raced 22 clear - including three successive five counts - before Graham Teal's rink chalked up a shot. They eventually took the rink honours 41-9.

The rinks of Trevor Collins and Bob Warters also won comfortably but it was left to Trevor Christie's quartet to snatch an unlikely points when they trailed 10-20 with three ends to play and finished with counts of 4, 1, 5.

Roger Martin also left it late, driving his opponent's shot bowl off the rink with his final delivery to win 18-17.
