Disappointment for Friendly team at Grantham

The luck ran out for our Saturday Friendly Team away at Grantham. At the hallway stage they were only ten shots adrift and their captain, Denis Stapleton, was confident that a second win in a row was on the horizon. But then the wheels came off, no wicks, no rub of the green, and none of that famous "L" word. That is apart from on the rink skipped by Martin Wallace with the trusted old veteran Arthur Chapman as lead and Martin's wife Elizabeth at number two. They played a blinder going to an impressive 18 shots to 1 up by the ninth end and finishing up by winning 26 to 11, our best rink by far. It was the first appearance in the Friendlies for Martin and Elizabeth. Let's hope they can continue to take part.

Other than that Maurice Dye's rink held their own drawing 17 all. We'll spare the blushes of the other four rinks by concluding that overall we lost by 147-96, pity we didn't make the ton.

The next Saturday Friendly is away at the Charnwood Club in Loughborough on the 22 November and we still need more players, male or female, to make up the required number to form six rinks of four players. The teamsheet is on the Club Friendlies notice board.
