Stamford Bowlers feature in County Triumph

Tony Barwell, Mick Linnell and Martyn Dolby featured in the Lincolnshire side which reached the semi-final of the Senior Liberty Trophy inter-county championship with a 127-109 defeat of Yorkshire, three rinks playing simultaneously at Lincoln and York.

The trio were joined by Lincoln’s Steve Derby in a 24-14 rink win which helped secure their place in the last four against Northamptonshire - 120-85 winners against Norfolk - on February 22 (12.30pm).

After a slow start at York, the Lincs rinks recovered well overall, while at Lincoln, the home side were always in command.

Result Senior Liberty: Lincs 127 Yorkshire 109.

LINCOLNSHIRE Indoor Bowling Association competitions have reached the knock out stage with matches involving Stamford bowlers in pairs, triples and fours scheduled to be played by February 6.

Richard Allam and Bob Warters travel to Lincoln on January 29 to play Don Skayman Jr and Richard Ashton in the pairs, while Paul Green, Tony Diovisalvi and Ron Blake travel to Sleaford to face Paul Roberts’ trio.

In the rinks Chris Ballard, Owen Aspinall, Neil Wright and Allam ( substituting for Adam Warrington) are also at Lincoln against Will Bell.

Allam also features in all three individual events at Boston on February 13 ( men’s singles), Grantham on February 26 (Senior open singles) and Louth on March 13 (Open sets singles). He plays Simon Lilley (Spalding) at Boston, M McGowan (Lincoln) at Grantham and Trevor Bannister (Sleaford) at Louth.

Other Stamford players in action are: Men’s singles - Tony Barwell v Jason Lewis (Grantham); Senior open singles - Martyn Dolby v Dave Warren (Louth), Ron Blake v Martin Simpson (Spalding); Open Sets singles - John Pearson v Martin Tomlin; Christine Ford v Dominic McVittie (Spalding), Shirley Suffling v Paul Oke (Spalding).

LINCS’ Liberty Trophy team were conceded their quarter final against Notts and will now face Cumbria in the semi-final.

In the Lincolnshire League Stamford’s Senior Men aim to keep their stranglehold on the Over 60s (South Division) on Wednesday when they entertain strugglers Skegness (10 am).

Federation Results

Stephen Harris will face Martyn Dolby and Neil Wright takes on Richard Allam after beating Chris Ballard and Ally McNaughton in the Northants Federation indoor singles.

McNaughton and Mick Smith, representing Wittering beat Mick Greaves and Ray Keating (Peterborough & District) 21-15. Cliff Watson narrowly defeated George Cameron 21-20 in the Senior singles.
