The hangover from the defeat in the Denny Cup on Saturday proved short-lived for Stamford's leading bowlers who bounced back immediately on Sunday to inflict their biggest ever win over local rivals Sleaford claiming all 18 Lincs League Division One points.

The decisive 128-88 victory keeps Stamford level with Spalding with 32 points from two matches.

But it could have been so different. With the match reaching the crucial final ends, Stamford had only the rinks skipped by Peter Edwards and Paul Bailey in the bag inspiring a healthy overall lead.

However, Roger Martin snaffled four shots in the last two ends against Trevor Bannister, after trailing 10-21 at one stage and Bob Warters drew the shot to the re-spot when facing a five count against his rink on the 19th end. They eventually won 22-20.

And finally with maximum points on the line, Martyn Dolby added an immaculate second shot to Stephen Harris's back toucher to inch ahead 22-21.

Result (Stamford names only):

Lincs League Division One: Sleaford 88 Stamford A 128. Stamford's second string made an impressive start to their Third Division campaign with a 124-73 home defeat of Louth A, claiming 16 of the 18 points available and again Richard Martin's rink proved conclusive.

With Chris Ballard, Tony Barwell and Pete Linnell, Martin added 23 shots without reply to run out 41-12 winners from the 14th end.

There were also wins for rink skipped by Dennis Henshaw, Trevor Christie and Peter Banks.
