It’s all “Goode” news this week for Maggie’s Marauding Weekenders in their latest friendly against Sleaford. With Serena Brunning sandwiched, very painful, between Reg and Jill Goode (pictured) they led the way with an impressive 34-6 destruction of their opposition. They were admirably backed up by Cherry Burgess, Margaret Grainger and Howard Heath who after being all square after ten ends came back to win 20-14 and Ron Blake, Maggie Holden and Paul Green who had an exciting last end. They were leading 21-18 and were one down with just the opposition skip’s wood to come. He rolled the jack back to give us six and move the final score to 113-101 in our favour.

On the other three rinks we all battled away until as they say the fat lady starts singing, or was it stops? Rosemary Roberts, Denis Stapleton and Ken White after being 3-15 down after twelve ends got back to 13-21. Jenny Desborough, Linda and Derek Cave went down 12-25 and Colin Burgess Ann Preston Bambridge also suffered losing 7-17. But as Maggie Holden said in her congratulatory speech they all count.

Sleaford proved to be excellent hosts to the extent where they lent us six players to make up our number to the requisite twenty four. What a pity we can’t raise a full side out of nearly six hundred members!

The team sheets are on the notice board for the next two matches on January 19 and February 3.
