With the Lincs IBA reverting to a promotion and relegation structure for the 2025-26, Stamford Over 60s captain Kevin Vinter, despite his pleas, was only able to raise incomplete teams, so matches were cancelled. As a consequence, the club will be delighted that their proposal to re-introduce the regional north and south format with shorter journeys, has been accepted by the county’s clubs albeit only by a majority vote.
However, after 45 players were approached, the captain was able to compete with just one player short for the 158-mile round trip to Scunthorpe. Despite a 55-102 defeat, put up a stoic performance.
“We didn’t get a point but I felt we didn’t disgrace ourselves and I am grateful to all who supported me today and throughout the season,” said Vinter.
The rink of John Pearson, Dave Morgan, Jeff Bourne and Dave Oakey came closest to snatching a point - only conceding a vital shot on the last end.
*Stamford IBC expect to re-introduce two teams into the Lincs IBA men’s league southern section next season, once a captain has been nominated at the club’s annual meeting on Wednesday (April 15) 7.30 pm.

Brian Edwards, who was honoured with life membership in 2018 by Stamford IBC for his services to the club, died on April 11 aged 88.
In his role as financial officer he helped guide the club through a difficult period, despite recovering from heart surgery. He took over the role in 2006 and helped steer the club into its current healthy state as one of the county's leading indoor clubs, completely staffed by volunteers with a membership recovering to more than 500 after the covid pandemic.
The citation, presented by chairman Keith Rippin, to the Runcorn-born former management accountant at the time, reflected his 'dedication and outstanding service to the sport of bowls and to the club over many years.' He leaves a widow Anita.
