Bill Orme
Bowlers who have won through to the finals of the Stamford Indoor championships could face disqualification if they are incorrectly dressed on the green.
That’s the stark message from club competition organiser Bill Orme determined to ensure players meet the official standards laid down by the club for decades but which he claims have dropped in recent years.
“To ensure its integrity, the competition organisers reserve the right to refuse any player to participate who does not conform to the stated SIBC dress code. You have been warned,” says Bill a former RAF serviceman who has also participated in the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph in London.
He adds “Our dress code gives a better impression to spectators and demonstrates the respect that all members have for each other and the club.”
Among the clothing banned for the finals which take place over the next two Sundays (April 12 & 19) are any form of denim ( jeans, trousers or shorts, shirts or skirts) leggings and tee shirts (without collar) of any colour.
Players must wear black, white or grey trousers, shorts or skirts with black club shirt or predominantly white bowls shirt. Solid coloured shirts of any colour are unacceptable.
Bill has spent many hours collating the competitions, especially sorting the finals which are for the first time to be held over successive weekends to accommodate many players making multiple appearances.
