Stamford Saints and Bulls completed their penultimate matches in the EIBA Fantastic Fives competition but failed to achieved the victories they craved in what has been a disappointing season for both.

Saints travelled to Church Gresley with admittedly an inexperienced side and finished on the wrong end of maximum points, while the Bulls' visit to Charnwood earned them just one win from four disciplines in singles, pairs, triples and rinks.

Ron Blake made his debut for the Saints in Derbyshire but was outclassed by Mark O'Connell 21-3 in the singles before Judy Barwell, another debutant, Isobel Reading and Jeanette and Jeff Bourne lost the fours on a measure 7-6.

After losing a six count to trail 0-10, the Bournes and Reading went down 7-16 and it was a similar story for Blake and Barwell in the pairs, losing 6-20.

At Charnwood, June Brennan, Peter and Glenys Edwards and Tony Barwell, squared the match in the fours with a 7-6 win after Alan Romaine had lost the singles but then the Bulls lost both the pairs and triples.

Romaine and Barwell went down 10-6, while the Edwards' and Brennan were trounced 19-4.

Both teams will complete their fixtures on Sunday, August 11 (2pm) with a double header. Stamford Bulls entertain Church Gresley while the Saints host Melton.
