COVID 19 Update

The Prime Minister made a very clear statement with major implications for us all. In the interests of containing the Coronavirus pandemic, each and every one of us must adapt to a new way of working and living in the coming days, weeks and months.

The club is therefore closed and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Not only is this presently required it is in the interest of the majority of our members who fall into the ‘at risk’ category.  The position will be kept under constant review, taking into account the advice of the Government and the interests of its members; and as soon as it is possible to resume business even if on temporary or limited scale we will do so. We will keep you updated as necessary here and via other media.

The Directors have discussed the effect of the closure and are satisfied that the financial reserves are such that we are able to withstand a short to medium term closure. We had budgeted for a ‘rainy day’ and that is what we now have. Notwithstanding this not only have we closed down all non essential utilities we are actively pursuing what other avenues of income we might be eligible for.

Taking the above into account the Directors have decided to continue with replacing the playing surface and underlay as originally decided. However, there may be a delay as the contractors, Dales Sports Surfaces, are presently closed due to the emergency.

It is possible that the summer 2020 leagues may not now take place but if we are able to open for a reduced summer season at some stage we may be able to provide a reduced summer leagues.

As far as the winter leagues for 2019/20 are concerned as these were not completed before the closure it has been decided, in consultation with the league secretary, that these will remain incomplete and there will not be any promotions or relegations to affect the 2020/21 winter season whenever we are able to commence that season. It would be appreciated if anyone who wants to withdraw or enter a team to the 2020/21 winter season let the league secretary, John Holroyd, know this as soon as possible and in any case no later than the end of June; contact John Holroyd on 07531 989500 or email:

The EIBA Ltd has cancelled all the summer national competitions but on a more positive note is taking national entries for the winter season 2020/21. The Lincolnshire Indoor Bowls Association and the Lincolnshire Ladies Indoor Bowls Association are also taking entries for that season. All three organisations will try to complete their 2019/20 competitions at the beginning of the next season but this will be dependent on when the season can start and what space is available.

Further information on entering next season competitions can be found on the club’s website at:

Arrangements for the AGM will be made when we have a better idea of when we might be able to hold it.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask that you follow the government’s directions to:

  • Stay at home
  • Take just one form of exercise outside per day, and only with family members who live in the same household
  • Restrict shopping to essential items of food and medical supplies
  • Only travel to work if it is essential

Only by complying with these restrictions can we hope to limit the spread of Coronavirus to protect ourselves, our families and our communities, and buy our amazing NHS valuable time to prepare and respond.

Finally I would ask you to remember your bowling colleagues who not only will be missing the competition but also for many the vital social interaction this brings. If you know of anyone, particularly those on their own, who would benefit from contact then please do phone them or use social media to get in touch. It would be much appreciated.

Please stay safe and I look forward to meeting you on the green again as soon as is possible.

Keith Rippin
