1 large head cabbage, shredded
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
7/8 cup sugar
Carrots, optional
Dressing:
1 cup cider vinegar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. celery seed
Layer cabbage, onion, carrots and sugar. Combine dressing ingredients and bring to a boil. Pour dressing over cabbage mixture. Stir, cover and refrigerate for 4-6 hours. Mix well before serving. Key is to not stir during the time that it is first "resting" in the fridge.
