(Cake)
1.5 cups bisquick
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup milk or water (we use milk)
2 TBSP shortening
1 tsp vanilla
(Sauce)
1 cup sugar
2 TBSP cornstarch
2 level TBSP cocoa
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 TBSP butter
(Cake) Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 8x8 pan. Beat all ingredients except for topping on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 4 minutes. Pour into pan. Bake until pick comes out clean - 30-35 minutes. Cool slightly, then cut and plate.
(Sauce) Mix all ingredients except vanilla and butter. Add cold water to make smooth paste; add more water to make a thinner sauce. Place on burner on medium and stir often. Let it boil and thicken to desired consistency - turn onto simmer and add vanilla and butter. Serve over warm cake after putting slices on dessert plates.
