7 large granny smith apples / or enough frozen apples to fill a 9x9 baking dish.
1 cup gluten-free flour or Pamela's Baking Mix. For a regular crust, use regular flour.
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 cup chopped pecans (optional)
½ teaspoon nutmeg
1 stick butter, melted
Mix together dry ingredients and add melted butter; mix well.
Peel and slice apples and put in a 9 x 9 buttered pan. Spread flour mixture evenly over apples. If using fresh apples bake at 350 for 45 minutes. Increase heat to 375 and bake until bubbly. If using frozen apples, bake at 375 for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let stand for 15 minutes before serving (this allows the juices to solidify a bit). Goes well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
