Character Creation

Each character in the Multiverse is different, however they all use these rules and guidelines for creating them to begin with.

First, characters have six ability scores (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA) and 5 points to allocate among these stats. Each of these stats start at 0 before allocating points or choosing a species. Once the points are allocated, it is time to select a species. When allocating ability scores, characters can choose to drop a stat and make it into a penalty to gain more points to allocate. This can be done up to a -3 per ability. For example, if a character wants to have 8 points instead of 5 to start with, they can drop Charisma down to a -3 instead of leaving it at 0. This can lead to characters with crippling flaws in some skills and abilities however.

Species are detailed on this section and each one grants different bonuses to stats. Usually the character is made to synergize with the way the stats were allocated before selecting a species.

After selecting a species, it is time to choose a class which are detailed on this section. Classes give the characters HP, bonuses to their Defenses and stats, as well as bonus feats they get for selecting the class. Most of these feats are the necessary proficiency for each weapon or armor type.

After this, the character receives Experience Points (EXP) to spend, this EXP acts as a currency that is used to buy advancements and improvements for the character. It can also be spent on skills, feats, and even some class or spell improvements. The number of EXP received will be given below.

Many things can be advanced through the application of EXP. For post character creation advancement, see this page.

    • Each class only requires 3 EXP to increase its Hit Points.

    • Increasing a class Ability Score is 10 EXP, and increasing a non-class Ability Score is 20 EXP.

    • Increasing Attack Bonus is 5 EXP.

    • 1 Rank in a Skill is equal to 1 EXP.

    • Feats (unless stated otherwise) are 2 EXP each.

    • Increasing a class' Defense Bonus is 2 EXP per bonus.

    • Increasing a non-class Defense Bonus is 6 EXP per bonus.

    • Increasing wealth by +1,000 Gold is 1 EXP (to a maximum of +10,000 Gold at character creation, costing 10 EXP total).

After these points are spent, characters receive 1,000 Gold as starting funds to spend on equipment, weapons, and armor.
