Pokémon Trainer

Those who choose to catch monsters and train them, these are also known as "Pocket Monster Trainers" due to the portability of their monster catching devices.

HP: Pokémon Trainers start with 30 + Double Constitution as Hit Points.

(Increasing a Pokémon Trainer's HP costs 3 EXP and grants the Pokémon Trainer 1d6 + Double Constitution for HP.)

Defense Bonuses: Pokémon Trainer receive a +2 bonus to Reflex Defense and Will Defense.

Pokémon Trainer characters gain a +1 bonus to Dexterity, Wisdom, or Charisma (the player's choice). The EXP cost of these stats for advancement is reduced to 10 EXP.

Attack Bonus: Pokémon Trainers receive an attack bonus of +0. This attack bonus can be increased by another +1 by spending 5 EXP up to a maximum of +8 Attack Bonus.

Skills: Pokémon Trainers receive 1 starting rank in the following skills; Awareness, Drive, Handle Animal, Knowledge (Technology and Wilderness), and Use Computers.

Pokémon Trainers automatically receive the following:

Pokémon Trainers form a special bond with a creature which they take into battle with them, using this creature as a catalyst for their battles. They have an initial starter Pokémon they build below, but also receive 6 Pokéballs per day they can use to attempt to catch creatures.

Capturing a creature requires a Use Computers check from the Pokémon Trainer with a DC equal to the creature's current HP when the Pokéball was thrown (example, a Pokémon Trainer attempting to catch a Drake would require a DC 86 Use Computers to catch it while it's at full HP).

A Trainer cannot have more than one Pokémon out at a time, regardless if they have more available that they have captured.

The Pokémon is as a companion and built as follows:

    • HP equal to 40 + Double Constitution. It costs 3 EXP to increase the Pokémon's HP by 1d8 + Double Constitution.

      • Pokémon cannot have a number of Hit Dice that is greater than double the Pokémon Trainer's.

    • The Pokémon is of the Animal (Pokémon) breed and sub-breed.

      • The Pokémon isn't proficient with weapons except for their natural weapons. They receive a single natural attack and by spending 5 EXP they can gain an additional natural attack. They can gain up to four natural attacks.

      • The Pokémon's Attack Bonus and Skill Ranks are separate from the Pokémon Trainer, and use the Animal's progression and Defense Bonuses.

    • The Pokémon, when slain, cannot be brought out of its Pokéball again for another 24 hours or until healed at a Poké Center.

    • The Pokémon receives the following numbers to put into their stats: 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. They also receive a racial bonus of +1 in two physical stats.

    • Summoning and desummoning your Pokémon is a move action.
