Wands

Wands are sources of magical power, enhancing a caster's power beyond that of normal capabilities sometimes. They also serve as a storage for some spells, and even as their own special magical outlets. There are various categories of wands; "Storage" Wands which have spells already in them that it casts, "Charged" Wands which serve as an outlet for user's casting, and "Unique" Wands which have unique effects in them and are separate from spells.

To use a wand you must succeed at a Use Magic Device check, the DC varying depending on the wand. Storage wands are the easiest to activate while unique wands are the hardest.

Storage Wands

Storage wands have their own amount of MP that the caster uses to unleash the spell within. These wands become inert once their Wand MP is brought to 0. These wands always function on a spell's lowest variables (meaning that they cannot be advanced from EXP, even if the caster has the spell in question advanced in their own spell list). Storage Wands have their own "casting stat" variable, the attack that is made with the wand instead using this instead of the user's (whether they have a casting stat or not). Attacks with these wands still use the caster's Attack Bonus, however and other miscellaneous bonuses that would apply. This bonus is not doubled from Mages or Priests when using corresponding wands to their casting type. This also applies if it is a wand the caster crafted. These wands cannot be modified by feats or talents that alter spells unless they specify they work on these wands.

If a caster has the spell in question on their own spell list, they can use the wand without making a UMD check. Storage wands can only be made for spells up to 8 EXP. The crafting DC for these wands is equal to the UMD check required to activate them. If the creator has the spell on their spell list, they add a +5 to the check.

Charged Wands

Charged wands are imbued with magical energy, enhancing a caster's performance when casting spells. Some cultures and colleges require their mages to use these wands at all times while others prohibit them. Non-spellcasters can wield these wands, but they gain no benefit from them. These wands cannot be used to modify other wands.
