IDLY MANCHURIAN
Deep fried idlis tossed in Indo-Chinese sauce . This Idly Manchurian recipe is an easy way to use leftover idlis . Idly manchurian is a fusion of South Indian & Chinese style cooking . You can enjoy this dish as an appetizer or as a snack with tea and can be enjoyed as a light dinner . Cold idlis or a day old refrigerated idlis work best as they are easy to cut and fry . Even fresh idlis can be kept in fridge for 30 minutes and then turned into manchurian Idly . This unusual yet unique fusion food that takes an Indo Chinese avater is soft from inside with crisp exterior. Tossed in sauces and combined with bell pepper , the end result makes it hard to identify that main ingredient is our humble idli .
COOKING TIME 30 minutes SERVES 4
INGREDIENTS
Idli 5
Maida 1/2 cup
corn flour 1/4 cup , Soya sauce 1 tsp , kashmiri red pwd 1 tsp , black pepper pinch , salt , little water
FOR SAUCE
Onion 1 cut in small pieces
garlic and ginger 1tbs cut in small pieces
Capsicum 1/2 deseeded and cut
Tomato sauce 1/4 cup
Chilly sausce 1 tsp
soya sauce 1 tsp [ I have put 2 tsp in vedio but for light colour use 1 tsp ]
Vinegar 1 tsp
Green onion 1/4 cup finely chopped , salt as per taste , oil 2 tsp
METHOD
Cut 5-6 leftover idlies into 4 pieces each .
Mix 1/2 cup maida , 1/4 cup corn flour , red kashmiri mirch 1tsp , black pepper a pinch and salt
3 . Add water to make batter without any lumps . The batter should not be thick neither liquidy . Dip 4 -5 idly pieces in batter. Keep a kadai on gas with oil to deep fry idlies . Fry till golden brown .
4. In a non stick pan , put 2 tsp oil .When it is hot add onion finely cut . Add 1 tbs garic and ginger finely .
After 1 minute add capsicum cut in medium pieces . Roast for 3-4 minutes , add tomato sauce and chilly sauce .
6. Roast for 1 minute, add 1 tsp soya sauce and 1 tsp vinegar . Add fried idllies and mix well.
SERVE IDLY MANCHURIAN WITH GREEN ONION SPRINKLED OVER IT
