GHIYA CHANA DAL
Ghiya , lauki or bottle gourd are different names of same vegetable which is light for the stomach and full of minerals. You can add it to the vegetable soup and make tasty sabji mixed with moong dal mangori . Today we are making ghiya with delicious , nutritious and digestive chana dal . Chana dal is high in fibre and help to lower cholestrol . Chana dal mixed with ghiya is one of the healthiest form of vegetable .
COOKING TIME 30 minutes [ 1 hour for soaking ] SERVES 4
INGREDIENTS
Chana dal 1/2 cup
Ghiya [ bottle guard ] 1 medium
Tomato 2 grated or cut in small pieces , green chilli 1 , ginger 1/2 tsp grated , salt , red chilli pwd , dhaniya pwd , haldi , cumminseeds 1 tsp , hing 1/3 tsp , lemon juice 1 tsp or amchur pwd 1/2 tsp , ghee or oil 1 tbs
METHOD
- Soak 1/2 cup chana dal for 1 hour or soak in hot water for 1/2 hour . Peel and cut ghiya in small pieces . Grate 2 tomatoes and ginger . Cut green chilli into small pieces , it is optional .
- Put pressure cooker on medium flame and drop 1 tbs oil or ghee in it . When it is hot , add 1 tsp cumminseeds and 1/3 tsp hing . When cummin seeds splutter add green chilli and ginger . After 30 seconds add 1 tsp haldi and 1/2 tsp red chilli pwd .
- After 30 seconds add grated or cut tomatoes and roast them . Add salt and 1tsp dhaniya pwd . After 3-4 minutes when masala with tomatoes is roasted , add soaked chana dal and ghiya cut in small pieces . Mix well for 2 minutes .
- Add 2 glasses of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles on high flame and 5 minutes on slow gas
- Let the pressure eases off . Open the cooker and mix again with a kadchi . Check the consistency of water , if it is too thick add some boiled water and if you find the vegetable too liquidy , Keep it on high flame for 2-3 minutes and let the excess water dry .
- Add 1 tsp lemon juice or 1/2 tsp amchur pwd according to your taste. You can add 1/2 tsp garam masala and corriander leaves .
- Ghiya chana dal is ready and serve with roti or parantha.
