Batata Vada In Appe Pan / Non Fried Batata Vada / Aloo Bonda Appe
This version of batata vada is for the people like you and me , who are always looking for healthy no fry recipes and low in calories . Aloo Bonda or Batata Vada is a traditional Maharashtrian and South Indian snack which can be found in every street corners of the states. I have not used garlic but you can add garlic also in making potato mixture . So lets try the recipe .
COOKING TIME 25 minutes SERVES 4
INGREDIENTS
Potato 3 medium boiled
Besan 1 cup
ginger 1 ' grated , green chilly 1-2 cut finely , zeera 1/2 tsp , ajwain 1/2 tsp , salt , haldi 1 tsp , red chlly pwd 1 tsp , corriander leaves 2-3 tbs , pinch of soda [ garlic 3-4 optional ]
METHOD OF MAKING NON FRIED BATATA VADA / APPE PAN ALOO BONDA
boil the potatoes .
assemble the ingredients .
in a pan put 1 tbs oil , when it is hot add jeera , hing . add ginger grated , green chilly . [ you can add garlic cut finely at this time ]
add 1/2 tsp red chilly pwd , 1/2 tsp haldi .
when it has roasted add boiled and crushed potatoes .
add salt as per taste .
mix every thing well and cover for 2 minutes .
switch off the gas and add corriander leaves .
mix well . the potatoes are ready .
after cooling them , make balls similar to the size of appe sections .
take besan in a bowl .
add salt , 1/2 tsp red chilly pwd , 1/2 tsp ajwain , 1/2 tsp haldi .
add water slowly to make batter neither thin nor too thick .
whisk it well with a hand whisker to make it lumpfree batter .
add pinch of soda .
heat appe pan .
put 1/2 tsp oil in each section of appe pan .
keep the gas slow .
put 1 round ball in besan batter and coat it well from all the sides.
keep it in the section of appe with the help of a spoon .
cover the pan and the gas should be slow only .
after 3-4 minutes , check if the corners are little reddish and stiff .
turn one by one when they are done ,
cover and let it cook from the other side also for 2-3 minutes .
serve tasty non fried batata vada with any chutney .
STEP BY STEP OF MAKING BATATA VADA IN APPE PAN / NON FRIED ALOO BONDA
boil the potatoes .
heat a pan , put 1 tbs oil .
when it is hot add zeera .
add ginger grated and green chilly cut finely .
after seconds add 1/2 tsp haldi and 1/2 tsp red chilly pwd .
when they are roasted add boiled and crushed potatoes .
add salt and mix well .
cover for 2 minutes .
switch off the gas and add 2 tbs corriander leaves and mix .
for besan batter , put salt , 1/2 tsp haldi , 1/2 tsp red chilly pwd , 1/2 tsp ajwain .
mix and add water slowly to make batter nor thin neither thick .
whisk it with hand whisker to make a lumpfree batter . add pinch of soda also .
drop 1/2 tsp oil in each appe section and keep on low gas .
drop balls one by one in the batter , coat them well with the batter and keep in the appe section with a spoon .
cover for 3-4 minutes .
check if the corners are little reddish and stiff .
turn them to cook from the opposite side also .
cover again roast the opposite side also for 3-4 minutes .
take out and serve with any chutney .
