My second expedition of Avani Hills.

To-day morning I along with my daughter, son-in law , & wife went to Avani. Ten years back I had been there with my Sahakarnagar friends . Age doesn't remain as it is. I was 68 years when I had been there last time. To-day I am 78 years old. I have undergone a bypass surgery . It is a rough terrain. Yet, I ventured .I am very happy that I successfully scaled it.It was enthusiasm, determination & His blessings made it possible. My sons & grand children are faraway from me . My son-in-law, daughter & wife looked after me during trek like a child is taken care of & it was possible . It is a worth seeing place. It is a remote place in Kolar district. The strategy adopted while climbing was not looking up & realising how-much I had to climb. I simply bowed down & putting my steps carefully .

We left our residence at 7 a.m by Honda City Jazz car. We had packed our breakfast, lunch water & bottles for our expedition. Besides, we had a number of time pass eatables in our car. It was a beautiful Sunday morning . Roads were not busy. We passed through Hebbal fly over, ring road ,Tin factory, K.R. Puram , ITI , Wire bridge & entered National High way 75. National High way is well built & maintained . It gave me a feeling that India is improving. After Hoskote we approached Confident Ammon - a resort. In front of it we found a nice place to have our breakfast. We had a sumptuous breakfast at 8.30 a.m. After Kolar, we have to take a deviation to the right at Kantharaj circle .& proceed 6.5 K.Ms on a kutcha road. We come across glimpse of Avani hills. It is a mythological place connected with great epic Ramayana. It is a calm place far away from the busy hum of city life. Everywhere there boulders create awe on the onlookers.

Avani is a small village in Mulbagal taluk, Kolar district in Karnataka, India, about ten miles from Kolar Gold Fields. The village is located at 32 km from Kolar, the district centre and 32 km 13 km from Mulbagal, the Taluk headquarters. It is a popular location for rock climbing. We reached it at 11 a.m.

Many places we come across in India, Ceylon,:Java & Sumatra etc which are related to great epics Mahabharata & Ramayana Avani known as Gaya of the South, It is also believed that the sage Valmiki, the author of the epic Ramayana, lived here and Sri Rama stayed here on the way back to Ayodhya, after his conquest of Lanka. The legend goes further to establish that Seetha Devi, after being rejected by Rama, gave birth to her twins Lava and Kusha in this Avani.

Avani has a cluster of Ramalingeshwara Temple all with in one courtyard dedicated to Lakshmana, Bharatha, and Shatrugna as well as a shankara muth built by the Nolamba dynasty. Legend has it, that the hill above was home to Valmiki’s Ashram, where Lava and Kusha were Born and raised. Young boy Naveen was our guide. He knew the place well . He acquainted us well with the place. We saw Dhanus kodi , rolling boulder , Pandavas temple . & Sri Rama temple.

Avani hill is rugged . It is full of rocks. It is full of monkeys too. There are steps to the top of hill. In some places there are rails. As one climbs one comes across beautiful scenes around . Cool breeze also enchants everyone there. At the top of hill there is SitadeviTemple. It is more than 3 k.m. traverse from the village Avani. Archaeological Survey of India has kept the place neatly. Temples are under mujarahi.

Place is improving. Guest houses & toilets are being built at the place. There are bore-wells in the village .Tourism in India has yet to take rapid strides. Video below gives a vivid picture of the place. It is faith makes one believe all the stories.

My wife recollected her last time experience with apes. She had a bag full of oranges. A big monkey snatched it from her . It did not share it with other monkeys at all. It was chewing oranges & throwing.
