61 years back.

61 years back (I956 ) I passed my S.S. L. C from Board High School , Kundapur. It was when I had begun wearing pants in lieu of half pants.Though the years roll over some events remain live throughout. Those were the days when many in our Dakshina Kannada hadn't had glimpses of a train & people from there used to come to either Shimoga or Tarikere to have a glimpse of it.

Our family was a big family comprising of 11 children. My father wanted me to pursue my studies. At that time, there was no college at Kundapur. My eldest sister was at Hassan . She came forward with helping hand. That is how I joined Intermediate college , Hassan with Physics, Chemistry & Maths as optional subjects. It was last batch of Intermediate in Mysore University.

Hassan is district headquarters. It was sparsely populated at that time. In it there was no First Grade college in 1956 . Our college had no building of its own to house classes. Our college was near Church off B.M. Road. A few classes were conducted there & a few classes were conducted in a building behind District offices. There was no playground for our college. Our playground was Govt High School playground in K.R. Puram. Our physical training classes were conducted there in morning hours. Hassan was known as poor man's Ooty in those days. There was biting cold in winter.Attending P.T was really a punishment.

M/ s Thipperudraswamy, T. V. Ashwathnarayana brother of Tarasu , U. R Anantha murthy , M.V . Vasantha Kumari, Manikarnikamma, Chandrappa, Mouli, & Ramachar, were my lecturers . Mr Sreenivas Murthy was principal.

Today, which colleges are not there in Hassan. It is now an educational center. There are medical colleges, engineering colleges & what not . Hassan has developed by leaps & bounds. It is one of the most sought places for tourism in Karnataka as it has a rich cultural history.

India has developed. Kundapur too . There are colleges in & around it too. Konkan railway has bestowed it with a railway station.
