当種は、本邦では、報告されていない。

Fontinalisは、NCでは広範に生息しており、Crumは14種類を記載している。Fontinalis間の分類は、やや難しい。

日本産のクロカワゴケF. antipyretica及びカワゴケF. hypnoidesは、Crum先生の図解に記載されているが、均茶庵は採集していない。

水中の丸太、幹、根、藪の根元に付着する。

植物体は、10~15cmになる。茎葉は、3~4mmで、枝葉は1.5~2mmある。ほぼ全辺で、細長い。中肋はない。
