和名は、「オオヒモゴケ」。

平凡社によれば、湿地など湿った地上や岩上に生え、北海道、本州中部地方以北、四国に産する。但し、神奈川県からは未報告である。

均茶庵は、東部のMerchant Mill Pondの水中のCyprus及びTupelo Gum

樹上から採集している。又、西部のアパラチア山脈を走るBlue Ridge Parkway沿いの岩上からも採集している。

Crumによれば、植物体は3~9cmで、時に蜜な仮根に覆われている。(tomentose)

葉は2~4mmで、鋸歯がつく。乾燥すると捩れる。(twisted and contorted)パピラが1個ある。
