Leaders of YSR Congress party moved the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday alleging that they were being threatened by the local administration.
In a three-page petition, YSR Congress party vice-president K Shiva Kumar and party leader PNV Prasad alleged that the Kadapa SP and collector were filing false cases against their workers.
The party leaders had lodged a similar complaint with the Election Commission last month.
In their petition, party leaders stated they had been threatened with dire consequences and were asked not to support, canvas or vote for YSR Congress party. They further noted that over 1,000 people were being routinely summoned to police stations in Kadapa after being falsely implicated in various cases. Petitioners alleged they were being harassed for supporting Jaganmohan Reddy.
The petitioners have also alleged that the police have been threatening, beating and intimidating Jagan supporters and that such an act was in complete violation of their human rights. Reacting to the petition, the commission has called for the reports from the SP and collector by May 6.
