The state capital of Hyderabad has witnessed two major political events on Monday – the formal merger of Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress on the occasion of the birthday of megastar-turned-PRP founder K Chiranjeevi and the resignation of 26 Congress MLAs from the assembly membership.
Though the en masse resignation of the Congress MLAs in support of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was a sort of severe setback for the Congress party, the latter tried to give the impression that it was not a very significant and unexpected development.
As if it is ignoring this development, the Pradesh Congress Committee has organized a big show at Gandhi Bhavan welcoming Chiranjeevi and his group MLAs into the party formally.
“May be they are celebrating the birthday of Chiranjeevi by inviting him and his MLAs into the party. But they have forgotten that it is a death day for the Congress party as we have started a war against it,” YSR Congress party spokesman Ambati Rambabu said.
