New Initiative
Let’s join hands to make literacy a reality
Every Telugu Women, be it a mother or sister, is a symbol of achievement and a tribute to the economic self reliance. Today, every Telugu woman is an economic powerhouse and it’s all there for us to see, but the power of literacy is amiss. We need to empower every single woman with the weapon of knowledge to help her realize her true potential. Read on to see how you can make a difference.
Braving the adversaries that life throws at her and running the family in spite of the many challenges faced, the Telugu Woman, today, is a role model and has been duly acknowledged at the International level by the various Awards. But, unfortunately, the low literacy level is the only downside. To address this contemporary and relevant issue, ‘Sakshi’ and “YSR Foundation” has come up with an innovative initiative “Akshara Sakshi” at the grassroots level to eradicate illiteracy and empower the working women residing in the villages. This revolutionary initiative is aimed at bringing the light of knowledge to the lakhs of women across the state. Apart from eradicating illiteracy, “Akshara Sakshi” initiative will spread the power of knowledge and create awareness about issues that matter.
Four to five villages have been shortlisted in each mandal and 4-5 mandals in each assembly constituency across the 200 rural constituencies in the state, to begin with. To take this movement forward, Volunteers have been nominated and a custom-made syllabus has been designed that will be featured in the Sakshi Daily Newspaper, which will help the rural women to read and write in a very short time. Eventually, the target is to educate one lakh women, every month.
We should empower our mothers and sisters by gifting them the power of knowledge, which will, in turn, help them to scale new heights and to achieve more. For every constituency five mandals and for every mandal four to five villages are selected … so, imagine the possibilities. Every month, 500 women will be literate. Which means, we need 20 trained tutors per constituency who will teach the women for a period of 30 days to become well-versed with reading.
To take this ‘Literacy Drive’ Akshara Sakshi forward, to fund this noble initiative, space is allocated in zonal pages for advertising revenue across 200 constituencies which amounts to Rs. 6 crores which will be used for reading material for the rural women
As a concerned and compassionate citizen who strives to uplift the society, you are most welcome to be a part of this initiative. To make a difference, one can sponsor an amount of Rs. 1 lakh* per constituency per month. The sponsorship can come from individuals and institutions as well. One can sponsor a constituency for many months or sponsor the entire constituency. As a token of appreciation, the names of the individuals/institutions, photographs and details will be published in the constituency pages (everyday) of Sakshi daily newspaper as sponsors of the Sakshi literacy drive.
Come, let’s spread the light of literacy into each and every home. And pave the way for economic growth; and make every village progressive in more ways than one.
*. The amount is exempted from Income Tax under section 80G(5)(VII) of the Income tax act 1961.
