The Congress government is caught in a piquant situation over the ongoing CBI probe into the alleged illegal assets of YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Instead of upsetting Jagan’s apple cart, the government appears to be facing new set of troubles arising out of the case.
The onus of proving the charge of misuse of power during YSR regime is now sought to be pushed on the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. While deposing before the CBI officials, the representatives of the Sakshi media group, owned by Jagan, argued that it was for the government to clarify whether the companies which invested in Sakshi or any other ventures of Jagan were benefitted by the previous regime in any way.
The question whether the investors, be it individuals or companies, had received any special favours like land allotments or project contracts in lieu of their investments in Jagan’s firms must be addressed by the government. “It would be better if you seek that information from the government itself. It does not concern us. From our side, we had asked our well-wishers and friends to invest in our ventures and some of them responded and put in their money. They have reaped profits for their investments,” Sakshi Vice-Chairman Vijay Sai Reddy and others were believed to have told the CBI officials.
They also submitted all the relevant documents showing the investments, the details of the investors and the Demand Drafts showing repatriation of profits to the investors.
